Poole Everest challenge supports girls

A Poole fundraising challenge will help support girls living in one of Nepal’s remote regions.

The Nimsdai Foundation is preparing to take over the Dolphin Centre on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June for its Never Rest Everest Challenge, following its recent return from Lobuche in Nepal.

The Foundation, founded by mountaineer and former Gurkha and UK Special Forces Operative Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja MBE, supports mountain communities through education, welfare, emergency aid and environmental protection projects.

Its latest Dorset challenge will see participants use step machines over 24 hours, with the aim of trying to “summit Everest” as many times as possible across the event.

The money raised will support the renovation of the Mahila Feeder Girls’ Learning Shelter in Humla, which is described by the Foundation as one of Nepal’s most remote regions.

The shelter is home to around 20 girls aged 6 to 17, giving them a safe place to live and access education while helping secure their future opportunities.

The Foundation is aiming to raise £55,000 for the project, after recently opening a new Porters’ House for porters working in the Everest region.

Members of the public are being encouraged to visit the Dolphin Centre during the challenge, support the team and find out more about the Foundation’s work.
