Lighthouse shared its Poole community work with The King and Queen during their recent Dorset visit.
Representatives attended the renovated Grade I Listed Corn Exchange in Blandford Forum, where Dorset charities had been invited to explain their work by the Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Professor Michael Dooley.
Chief Executive Elspeth McBain and Creative Engagement Manager Martha Earley were joined by Josh Ward, a young participant in Get Creative, which records more than 25,000 community engagements each year.
Elspeth said it was “a privilege” to meet Their Majesties and welcomed recognition for Lighthouse’s contribution to Dorset as the Poole arts venue approaches its 50th birthday in 2028.
The Queen received a collection of poetry written by members of the Lighthouse Young Writers group, based on harmony and its importance across different areas of life and personal wellbeing.
Lighthouse also explained how creative activity can help bring communities together, before The King and Queen viewed the restored George II Royal Coat of Arms, unveiled a plaque and met local residents outside.
