HealthBus expands homeless care in BCP

Healthcare support for people experiencing homelessness across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is reaching more people.

The HealthBus Trust has used support from Bournemouth Water’s Better Futures Fund to create promotional packs, impact reports and a finishing-line banner, helping more residents and partner organisations understand where its mobile healthcare service can be found.

The charity’s specialists meet patients on the streets or in temporary accommodation, providing assessments, treatment, housing referrals, dentistry and mental health support while removing barriers that can prevent people from receiving medical attention.

One patient, Abby, was sleeping rough, unregistered with a GP and living with untreated wounds and poor mental health before receiving regular clinical care, wound treatment and help reconnecting with mainstream services.

HealthBus Chief Executive Deano Pickering said the new resources would “raise awareness, build trust” and give people clear information about available support, helping them move towards safer, healthier and more independent lives.

Bournemouth Water’s Sam Walton said the company hoped more people would understand why HealthBus supports vulnerable people throughout Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
