The M27 and A31 westbound remain closed following an earlier HGV collision in Hampshire overnight.
The closure is in place between the M27 junction 2 Ower Interchange and the A338 Ashley Heath Interchange near Ringwood, while recovery teams deal with the vehicle involved in the earlier incident.
National Highways says the recovery process is complex, meaning the route is likely to stay closed for “several hours” as work continues on the main westbound link towards Ringwood and Dorset.
The signed diversion takes traffic south on the A326 before joining the A35 through Ashurst, Lyndhurst, Hinton Admiral and Christchurch, then continuing along Castle Lane to the A338 Spur Road.
Traffic using the diversion can rejoin the A31 westbound at Ashley Heath, while vehicles approaching from the M27 junction 1 Cadnam Interchange must first travel east to junction 2.
The closure affects a key route linking Hampshire with Ringwood, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, with westbound traffic being redirected through the local area.
Traffic from Ringwood on the A31 to the M27 is unaffected.
