Christchurch’s community led planning blueprint has been formally submitted to BCP Council for its next stage.
More than 1,280 residents contributed to the document, which aims to protect the town’s character and green spaces while supporting local businesses, improving walking and cycling routes and guiding carefully planned future development.
The plan proposes 26 Local Green Spaces for enhanced protection, alongside policies covering biodiversity, tree planting, wildlife corridors, heritage assets, important views and the future vitality of Christchurch town centre.
It also includes guidance for development sites and places emphasis on affordable housing, family homes, accommodation for older residents and key workers, while supporting local employment opportunities.
The submission follows public consultation between November 2025 and January 2026, with feedback used to update policy wording, supporting evidence and factual information before Christchurch Town Council approved the document.
BCP Council will now run the Regulation 16 consultation before an independent examiner considers responses and makes recommendations ahead of a possible local referendum.
Approval at referendum would make the plan part of the statutory development framework used to decide planning applications across Christchurch for the next decade.
