Play area upgrades move ahead across BCP

Play area improvements are moving forward across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole over the coming months.

Treasure Island in Canford Cliffs is due to reopen in the coming weeks after major refurbishment, with a new pirate ship replacing the existing structure, alongside upgraded climbing equipment, slides, sensory play and a miniature zip wire.

The refreshed site will also include themed play zones, with new rope swings and rocking springers designed to encourage children to climb, balance and explore as part of BCP Council’s wider Plan for Play strategy.

The work has been funded by the Canford Cliffs Land Society and a successful Neighbourhood CIL application championed by ward councillors, while further upgrades at priority sites have now taken a significant step forward.

Contractors and suppliers have been appointed for Kings Park, Hamworthy Park, Bourne Valley, Noyce Gardens, Muscliff Park and Mallard Road, with designs being finalised before new equipment is installed at each location.

Noyce Gardens, near Jewell Academy, will get swings, slides, zip wires and climbing equipment, with 4 distinct zones for toddlers, primary school ages, teenagers and sensory play to support accessible and inclusive use.

Councillor Sandra Moore said designs had been inspired by local children, young people and families, adding that the council was now in the “installation phase” at sites including Kings Park, Mallard Road and Hamworthy Park.

Councillor Andy Hadley said Kings Park had been identified as a priority site during consultation last summer, with plans for a complete refurbishment shaped around the needs of local families.

BCP Council says the Plan for Play is delivering repairs, improvements and major refurbishments to more than 120 play areas across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
