Roadworks aim to prevent potholes
Work is taking place across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to help prevent potholes.
BCP Council says 15 roads covering 12km of the highway network are currently being treated with micro surfacing at a cost of just over £400,000.
The preventative work is designed to protect the road surface and reduce the likelihood of potholes forming in the future.
Council teams are also continuing to repair defects across the network, including potholes, damaged footways and kerbs.
During the past year the authority repaired 6274 defects and refreshed or replaced 1586 road markings and signs.
Figures from the Department for Transport placed road conditions in the BCP area within the top 20% nationally and gave the network a green rating.
Councillor Andy Hadley said preventing potholes before they form is the most effective way to maintain smoother and safer journeys.
The council is also trialling the use of artificial intelligence to help identify road issues earlier and improve monitoring of surfaces, signs and road markings.
