Dorset charity MYTIME is leading a national project to make young carer support more consistent.
The Equity for Young Carers Project has released 2 reports examining approaches in Newcastle and Romsey, with the findings intended to help organisations share effective methods and develop a fairer national framework.
Newcastle Carers created its I Care tool to reduce the need for young people to repeat personal experiences during assessments, while Romsey Young Carers introduced occupational therapy through partnerships with trainees and universities.
Mid Dorset and North Poole MP Vikki Slade attended the launch in London and said unequal access was “simply not good enough”, adding that the research could help address gaps in provision.
MYTIME Chief Executive Krista Cartlidge said: “No child should miss out on support simply because of where they live”, while describing the launch as the possible beginning of national change.
The charity also announced its Champion Young Carers campaign, calling for support to be embedded in every UK school, as renewed funding allows the project to work with more organisations in 2027.
