BCP plans overhaul of public litter bins
BCP Council is proposing a major overhaul of public litter bins across the area.
The authority currently manages around 2800 litter and dog waste bins, many of which are ageing and difficult for crews to empty safely.
Under the proposals, bins would be replaced with modern standard designs and many would be larger to help reduce problems with overflowing waste in busy areas.
The replacement programme would be introduced in phases over several years, initially supported by £200000 from the council’s bin replacement capital investment budget and a further £60000 from the Waste Infrastructure Grant.
The council will also explore introducing recycling on the go bins in suitable locations to encourage people to recycle waste while they are out and about.
Separate dog waste bins would gradually be removed and replaced with combined bins so residents can dispose of all waste in one place.
Councillor Andy Hadley said the changes are “a really positive step forward” and aim to help keep streets cleaner while making collections safer and more efficient.
The proposals will now be discussed by the council’s cabinet before a final decision is made.
