Politics carnival planned in Bournemouth

Bournemouth will stage a new politics carnival inviting open debate beyond traditional party lines.

The first Carnival of Alternative Politics will take place in the town on Saturday 14 February, building on Bournemouth’s long association with political conferences while offering a more informal space for discussion, participation and alternative thinking outside established party structures.

Organised as a series of talks and debates at the Freemasons’ Hall in Boscombe, the event will explore different visions for the future, including the experiences of recent graduates, cultural influences on politics and a discussion on the United Kingdom’s relationship with Europe.

Local issues will also feature, with a session focused on how Bournemouth town centre could be turned around following widespread online attention in twenty twenty five, alongside creative contributions including a large puppet of Nigel Farage and a theatrical appearance by Oliver Cromwell.

Young people are central to the programme, with a speaking contest for sixth form students on the adult world they want to live in, judged by the area’s Labour MP.

Organiser Brian Jenner said the aim was to encourage people to listen to others, adding that getting out and engaging with different ideas can be both stimulating and social.
