Flood alert issued for Dorset coast

A flood alert has been issued for Poole Harbour and Christchurch Quay, with coastal flooding possible during tomorrow morning’s high tide.

The Environment Agency says a combination of high tides, strong southerly winds and large waves could lead to flooding in low-lying coastal areas, particularly around Poole Harbour and along tidal sections of the Lower Frome and River Piddle during the late morning period.

Flooding is considered possible between 8:45AM and 12:45PM on 21 January, with the highest risk around the peak tide expected at 10:45AM, when water levels may rise above average sea levels due to weather conditions.

Residents and visitors in affected areas are being advised to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water, as conditions can change quickly and hidden hazards may be present beneath the surface.

Coastal roads, footpaths and car parks around Poole Harbour may also be affected, and people are being urged to plan journeys carefully and follow any local advice or warnings issued during the alert period.

The Environment Agency says it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates if conditions worsen.
