Rock N Roll Man brings rock story to Poole

A new touring musical telling the origins of rock and roll arrives in Poole next month, with Rock N Roll Man visiting Lighthouse Poole for a week-long run.

The production focuses on Alan Freed, the Cleveland radio DJ credited with coining the phrase rock and roll, and charts how his broadcasts helped introduce new music to wider audiences while challenging racial barriers in the United States during the nineteen fifties.

Broadway performer Constantine Maroulis leads the cast, bringing his experience from Rock of Ages and other stage productions to the role of Freed, supported by Gary Turner, known for playing Frankie Valli on stage and for his television work in Emmerdale.

The company also includes performers portraying artists such as Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Frankie Lymon, LaVern Baker and Buddy Holly, with a live onstage band led by musical director Dominique Scott providing the soundtrack throughout.

Rock N Roll Man is written by Gary Kupper, Larry Marshak and Rose Caiola, directed by Randal Myler, and produced by Wiltshire Creative alongside Caiola Productions and Green Room Ents, combining original songs with music linked to the early rock and roll movement.
