£7.8m boost to improve BCP bus network
More than £7.8 million has been awarded to BCP Council to improve bus services across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, with the aim of making local transport faster, cheaper and more reliable for residents.
The funding follows campaigning by Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes, who continues to press for stronger public transport links.
He is also hosting an accessibility session for disabled residents at 1pm on Friday 12 December and invites anyone interested to email his office.
Hayes has been working to reinstate the Throop bus route after holding a public meeting about the issue. He is also seeking improvements to the 33 service, more frequent connections to and from Bournemouth Airport, and a dedicated public transport interchange at the airport.
The money forms part of the Government’s wider investment to rebuild bus networks in England, supporting lower fares, new routes, zero-emission vehicles and safer stops.
Tom Hayes MP said that he regularly uses local buses and hopes the funding he secured “will deliver more reliable, frequent services for our community”.
Minister for Roads and Buses Simon Lightwood said the boost will help create safer journeys and support local economies.
