Bridge closure continues during repair work
A bridge and the waterfront at Poole Park will stay closed until mid December as engineers complete repairs to the Baiter sluice channel, a key link between Poole Park Lagoon and Poole Harbour.
The structure, built in the 1960s, plays an important role in maintaining the lagoon’s water quality and salinity, supporting rare wildlife in the area.
Work began in July to rebuild the corroded piling, and throughout the project salt water has been pumped from the harbour to protect water levels.
Machinery has been operated using marine-friendly bio-oil.
The repairs are funded through the Community Infrastructure Levy with further support from the Active Travel Fund.
The schedule was extended due to technical challenges requiring extra stability measures.
Councillor Andy Martin said the project is now in its final phase. Keyhole Bridge and nearby paths will remain closed until twelve December, when the new footpath and cycleway linking Whitecliff and Baiter is expected to open.
