Residents share safety concerns with MP
Residents across north Bournemouth have shared their views on neighbourhood safety at a series of Safer Communities events hosted by Bournemouth West MP Jessica Toale.
The sessions, held at Redhill Park Café, Slades Park Pavilion and Winton Royal British Legion, brought together local people with representatives from Dorset Police and BCP Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Team.
Issues discussed included nuisance neighbours, shoplifting, tool theft, illegal bikes and scooters, and concerns about county lines activity. Residents also highlighted specific problem areas on maps to help target police patrols more effectively.
Jessica Toale spoke about increased funding and new powers for local policing under the Crime and Policing Bill, stressing the importance of closing the gap between low crime figures and higher levels of public concern.
BCP Council’s Claire Seymour outlined how the ASB team works with police to reduce incidents and respond to community feedback.
Councillor Kieron Wilson, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said it was essential to continue listening to residents and taking targeted action.
“While reported incidents of antisocial behaviour are falling across our communities, we recognise that disruption can still vary widely,” he said. “That’s why it’s vital we continue to engage with residents and respond with targeted action.”
Earlier this year, Dorset Police expanded hotspot policing in Bournemouth town centre and Winton through the Safer Streets initiative, and under the Government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, 40 new officers will be assigned to Dorset to strengthen community policing.
