Bournemouth Airport disappointed over strike threat

Bournemouth Airport has expressed its disappointment after Unite informed management that some of its members plan to take industrial action.

The dispute affects around seventy Unite members across different departments out of a total workforce of four hundred and fifty. The airport said it had already met all previous union demands in full and made significantly improved pay offers which Unite recommended to members.

While the airport’s fire services team has accepted the deal, other areas have not, leading to the planned strikes on 30 September, 1 October, 16 October and 17 October.

In a statement, the airport said: “We are extremely disappointed industrial action has been threatened despite the Airport having negotiated extensively and in good faith with Unite and having met all their previous demands in full.”

The airport added it would continue discussions with Unite in the hope of avoiding strike action, while also preparing contingency plans to minimise disruption and keep operations running as normal.

Passengers due to fly on any of the strike days are being advised to check with their airline closer to departure for the latest updates on their flights.
