Poole Park and Upton Country Park earn national green space awards

Poole Park and Upton Country Park have once again been recognised among the best green spaces in the country after being awarded Green Flag status.

Both parks, managed by BCP Council, have also received Green Heritage Site Accreditation for their efforts in preserving and promoting their historical features.

Upton Country Park in Poole covers more than 140 acres, with woodland, shoreline, and gardens surrounding the Grade II listed Georgian Upton House.

Poole Park, which has kept much of its original Victorian layout, spans 110 acres and includes open parkland, water features and community facilities.

Councillor Andy Hadley said the achievement highlights the value of high-quality green spaces for the area’s health, biodiversity and wellbeing. He also praised the volunteers and council officers who maintain both parks.

The Green Flag scheme is run by Keep Britain Tidy on behalf of the government and acts as a national benchmark for the management of parks and public green spaces.

* More than 2,200 parks and green spaces across the UK were awarded Green Flag status in 2025.

* The Green Heritage Accreditation recognises sites that not only preserve historic features but also interpret and promote them to the public.

* Poole Park underwent a major £2.7 million regeneration project completed in 2022, partly funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
