A new private cancer treatment facility is planned at Poole Hospital from autumn 2027.
GenesisCare has been selected by University Hospitals Dorset as its preferred partner to provide private cancer services for patients across Dorset who have medical insurance or wish to self-pay for treatment.
The agreement is expected to support more than £50 million of investment into local NHS cancer care over the next 20 years, helping both NHS and private patients access treatment more quickly.
The planned facility will provide radiotherapy and Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy services, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, at Poole Hospital, with designs now being finalised while final agreements are completed.
University Hospitals Dorset says the investment, alongside its existing funding, will increase capacity, help patients begin treatment sooner, and fund the recruitment of extra consultant capacity to support NHS care.
Paul Gearing, Chief Growth Officer from GenesisCare, said the partnership marked “a significant investment into the future of cancer care in Dorset” and would create “tangible benefits” for NHS and private patients.
Dr Bryony Eccles, Consultant Medical Oncologist at University Hospitals Dorset, said GenesisCare’s proposal stood out for its approach to private healthcare, “evidence-based innovation, research and long-term investment”.
She said the purpose-built facility would benefit private patients while also supporting additional NHS staff recruitment and generating income to reinvest in NHS cancer care.
