Poole’s Alice Tai has won gold in the S9 100-metre backstroke at the Commonwealth Games.
She finished more than two seconds ahead of the field to defend the title for a third time.
Tai said she had been unsure whether she would compete after an injury flare-up around three weeks before the event.
She was only given the green light by the medical team shortly before racing.
Speaking afterwards, Tai said the 100 backstroke is her “baby” and that she felt she executed her race well.
She said winning in front of friends and family made the victory even more special, and added that LA remains her next major target.
