Traffic enforcement cameras are set to target driving offences across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
BCP Council approved moving traffic enforcement at a full council meeting on July 28, allowing cameras to be used against offences including banned turns and vehicles stopping in yellow boxes.
Councillor Richard Herrett said junctions, restricted movements and school zigzags were regularly abused, adding that the council would prefer drivers did not provide an opportunity for penalties to be issued.
However, Councillor John Challinor called the plan “another Lib Dem cash grab”, while Councillor Toby Slade questioned a scheme forecast to generate more than £1 million a year in net income.
Councillor Vikki Slade said people who repeatedly chose to break the law should be fined again, while Councillor Cameron Adams supported exploring enforcement in some situations but questioned whether it could become a cash grab.
Councillors were told forecast income would rise as cameras were installed at more sites, after some members questioned why revenue was expected to increase if the scheme successfully improved compliance.
