Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has approved three new domestic abuse strategies aimed at strengthening support for survivors, improving access to safe accommodation and preventing repeat harm across the area.
The strategies were developed after consultation with residents, partner organisations and people with lived experience of domestic abuse, who highlighted the need for earlier support, more accommodation options and accessible services.
The plans were created in partnership with Dorset Police, health services, housing providers and specialist domestic abuse organisations, setting out a coordinated approach for the next five years.
Key measures include expanding accommodation options beyond traditional refuge provision, providing earlier help before situations reach crisis point, focusing on the needs of children, improving partnership working and tackling perpetrator behaviour.
Services will be shaped by the experiences of survivors.
Councillor Kieron Wilson said the feedback received has helped shape a stronger approach, focusing on prevention, early help and long-term support.
The Safe Accommodation Strategy will offer more housing choices, the Preventing Domestic Abuse Strategy will raise awareness and promote healthy relationships, and the Perpetrator Strategy will increase accountability and access to behaviour change programmes.
Together, these strategies aim to reduce harm and create safer communities across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
