A Poole technology company faces losing government funding for a new child-tracking device this month.
FindiFox has until 10 August to secure its share of the project funding or risk losing a £522,288 government grant supporting development of its Spark One wearable.
The device is being created to help parents locate children indoors, underground and across busy multi-floor buildings, where conventional GPS technology can struggle to provide a reliable and accurate position.
The Poole-based company says outdoor trials have already located devices within 20cm to 30cm, while the next development stage aims to achieve accuracy of around 2 metres in more challenging environments.
FindiFox is seeking replacement funding after one of its main backers withdrew shortly before the project was due to begin, leaving the company unable to complete the required match funding.
The team said every contribution would help unlock government support already committed to the project, which would fund further development and trials while creating 5 skilled UK jobs.
Hundreds of families have joined a waiting list for Spark One, which FindiFox says has been designed to calculate location information privately on the device.
