Businesses across the Bournemouth area can now apply for support to develop water saving projects.
Bournemouth Water has launched a new Water Efficiency Business Innovation Fund aimed at helping companies that rely on water in their day to day operations to introduce practical measures that cut demand and improve efficiency across the region.
The scheme is open to any business that uses water, including hairdressers, farms, cafes and factories, with potential projects ranging from rainwater use and improved washing processes to wastewater treatment and new technology to reduce reliance on mains supplies.
Funding of up to £15,000 is available for larger initiatives, covering costs such as equipment hire and purchase, installation materials, skills and training, and professional fees for consultants or contractors involved in delivering the work.
Running alongside the business fund is Bournemouth Water’s Water Saving Community Fund, which supports grassroots projects that encourage residents to save water, and since April 2025 has awarded more than £62,000 to 28 schemes, saving 2.8 million litres.
Carmen Snowdon, Senior Demand Strategy Manager at Bournemouth Water, said the company wants customers to be “empowered and supported” with their ideas, adding that although reservoirs are currently healthy, climate change means water use must be considered throughout the year.
The company is also tackling leakage on its own network and helping customers identify and repair leaks, as around 30% of regional water loss comes from privately owned pipework.
