Community boost for Bournemouth Recycle
A Bournemouth community group has received a funding boost to continue saving reusable items from landfill while supporting vulnerable households across the local area.
Bournemouth Recycle was first established to reduce waste by rehoming materials that would otherwise be thrown away, with items passed on free of charge to local people who can make use of them in their daily lives.
Alongside its environmental work, the group now supports local charities and runs a food surplus scheme, collecting donations from supermarkets and distributing food to the community three times each week, helping dozens of households at a time through volunteer led efforts.
Group founder Sharon Valler said the organisation relies entirely on volunteers and donations, adding that the group also provides food parcels and seasonal goody bags for NHS hospital wards, which prompted an approach to the Morebus community fund for support.
Morebus confirmed the donation was made through its community fund, which is designed to assist local causes with practical support, including funding, travel help and access to buses for community events across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
General manager Richard Wade said the funding would be used to support food and care parcels for NHS wards in the area, adding that the work carried out by Bournemouth Recycle supports both vulnerable residents and environmental aims locally.
