Dorset seeks people to foster this year
Dorset Council is calling for more people to consider fostering as its new Christmas campaign highlights the urgent need for safe and stable homes for children across the county. The campaign focuses on how the festive season prompts people to reflect on family life and the impact they can make by offering a child security and care.
A powerful video sits at the heart of the campaign, sharing a child’s wish for safety and belonging during Christmas. It aims to encourage residents to think about whether they could offer a home to a young person who needs one.
Councillor Clare Sutton said Christmas often leads people to consider what matters most and explained that many children value the chance to feel safe and cared for more than anything else. She hopes the campaign will encourage residents to learn more about fostering with the council in 2026.
Foster carer Chris Smart describes fostering as life-changing and says seeing a child grow in confidence and trust is incredibly rewarding. He explained that the fostering community and the council’s support team are always available, helping carers give children stability and care.
Residents interested in fostering can visit the campaign website or call the council’s fostering team to find out more in an informal way.
