Petition glitch means residents must re-sign

Local residents are being asked to re-sign a petition after a technical problem with the change.org website meant some signatures were recorded incorrectly.

The petition, which has more than two thousand five hundred signatures, is calling for BCP Council to defer any decision on introducing new parish and town councils in Bournemouth and Poole until after the local elections in May 2027.

A community governance review has been running since October last year and the most recent public consultation closed on 22 June. Findings are due to be presented to cabinet on 14 October.

Councillor Judes Butt said the level of support so far showed how strongly the community felt about the issue. However, he explained that some postcodes had been recorded incorrectly by the change.org system, with some residents showing up as signing from places such as London, Bristol and Portsmouth.

Because of this error, the petition is still a couple of hundred valid signatures short of the two thousand needed to be presented to a Full Council meeting.

Change.org has advised that to correct the problem, residents need to re-sign the petition and ensure they enter their correct postcode.
