Highcliffe Castle is opening a new addition for visitors to experience this summer.
As part of the Phase 7 Lottery Heritage Fund restoration works at the Castle, a new stained glass studio has been installed and a Stained Glass Conservator has been appointed to undertake conservation work on an internationally important collection of stained glass.
This collection was compiled by Lord Stuart de Rothesay when he built the Castle between 1831-1836.
Visitors to the Castle will have the opportunity to see the Conservator and the team at work and learn more about the collection.
From late summer the Castle will be holding visitor workshops and classes, and in the autumn, there will be an exhibition focussing on the history of the pieces held in the collection.
Councillor Mohan Iyengar, Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Leisure and Culture commented: “We are delighted with the unveiling of this prized and fascinating collection, which is a great addition to Highcliffe Castle. It greatly reflects the rich history of not only Highcliffe Castle but also our wonderful county.”
“I am pleased with the incredible work of the team who have played an amazing part in uncovering the fascinating past of this treasured heritage site.”
The creation of the Stained Glass studio and the engagement activities surrounding it would not be possible without the generous funding from The Pilgrim Trust and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
