Boscombe garden launches charity drive

A Boscombe charity supporting local families has launched a major community fundraising campaign.

Grounded Community officially launched its six-week Keep It Grounded campaign at The Secret Garden in Boscombe, with councillors, supporters and local residents attending the event marking the start of fundraising efforts to support the charity’s long-term future.

The launch included the unveiling of the charity’s Tree of Giving, a handcrafted sculpture created by Bournemouth street artist Mirek Lucan of LucanArt, which will continue to grow with new donations and supporters throughout the campaign.

Founder and trustee Michael French said: “This campaign is about making sure we’re still here for the next generation of families, growers and neighbours.”

Grounded Community has spent more than a decade growing food and supporting people from its Secret Garden site in Boscombe, with the charity saying it currently helps around 200 local families every week through its projects and pantry services.

The campaign runs until 27 June and includes an online charity auction featuring donated prizes from businesses and organisations across Bournemouth and Dorset. Items include family attractions, gardening experiences, yoga sessions and food-based prizes donated by local supporters.

Residents can also become a Friend of Grounded through regular monthly donations, with supporters receiving growing guides, workshop discounts and their names added to the Tree of Giving installation.

Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes said Grounded Community supports people accessing healthy food while helping connect local residents with nature.
