A lower speed limit will be introduced on key roads in Ferndown and West Parley this month.
The speed limit on sections of New Road and Christchurch Road will reduce from 40mph to 30mph, with the changes taking effect from Friday 17 July. Work to install and alter road signs is due to begin on Monday 13 July.
The affected routes include New Road between Parley Cross and Ringwood Road, Christchurch Road through Parley Cross and the section of New Road between Ensbury Bridge and Parley Cross.
Dorset Council said strong support was received during a public consultation earlier this year, with residents, local councils and councillors backing the proposals.
Councillor Jon Andrews said the new limit represents “a significant step forward in enhancing road safety in the area”. He added that the aim is to make the area safer for people crossing the road, walking and cycling.
The lower speed limit is also being introduced ahead of further work planned in 2027, including improved pedestrian crossings and changes to junctions at Dudsbury Avenue and Chander Close alongside other road maintenance works.
