A man in his 40s was taken to hospital after being struck by a car that failed to stop in Rossmore Road, Poole.
The incident happened at around 8.45pm on Sunday and involved a white Vauxhall Astra, which left the scene before officers arrived.
Emergency services responded quickly, closing the road to manage the situation and assist the injured pedestrian, whose injuries are not believed to be serious.
Dorset Police are investigating the collision and have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward.
Police Constable Mia Lomas said officers are particularly interested in hearing from people who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time.
She also appealed directly to the driver involved to contact police and provide their account of what happened.
