Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council is asking people in Moordown, Queens Park, Littledown, Springbourne and Boscombe to share their views on a proposed 20mph neighbourhood scheme.
The council says the area has a high number of schools, a large student population and a history of road accidents, including incidents where people have been seriously injured. Between 2019 and 2023, there were 283 casualties from traffic accidents in the area, with 48 resulting in serious injuries.
Evidence from other 20mph zones in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole shows that casualty accidents have dropped by an average of 40 per cent where ten years of data is available.
Councillor Richard Herrett, Cabinet Member for Road Safety, said the proposal aims to create safer, quieter and more pleasant neighbourhoods for everyone who lives, works or goes to school in the area.
Residents can attend drop-in sessions at local venues to view maps, ask questions and learn more about how the proposals could affect their streets.
The consultation survey and further information are available at haveyoursay.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/20-mph.
