Police prepare for protests in Bournemouth

Dorset Police are preparing for a busy weekend in Bournemouth as planned protests are expected to bring additional visitors to the town centre.

Officers are working to ensure minimal disruption to local communities and businesses during the afternoon demonstrations on Saturday 11 July 2026.

Chief Inspector Darren Harris said the priority is to keep people safe and to balance the right to peaceful protest with the need to use legal powers where necessary. Police have worked with organisers and decided to impose conditions on the protest to maintain safety and minimise disruption.

Bournemouth Patriots have informed police of plans to hold a procession before reaching their designated protest zone in Meyrick Road.

They must follow a set route from Boscombe Spa Road, leaving between 12.45pm and 1.15pm, and must keep moving except for a brief pause at the Britannia Hotel.

Once in Meyrick Road, protest participants will be required to demonstrate in specific zones, with counter protesters in a separate area. A road closure will be in place along part of Meyrick Road, but residential access will be maintained.

Protesters must disperse by 5pm and use designated routes to leave the area. Police and emergency services will be highly visible throughout the day.
