A new long-term transport plan is moving forward for Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and Dorset.
The Local Transport Plan 2026 to 2041 sets out proposals to reduce congestion, improve public transport, make roads safer and support walking, wheeling and cycling across the area.
More than 1,000 people took part in the consultation, which was available online, in libraries and through in-person events with residents, businesses, community groups and stakeholders.
BCP Council says all six main objectives and 24 policies were backed by at least 60% of consultation respondents, including plans for more accessible public transport and a safer, more resilient network.
Councillor Andy Hadley said the strategy has “the voices of residents at its core” and has helped the council focus on “what matters most to them”.
The plan also looks at managing seasonal travel demand, improving air quality and cutting emissions, while supporting existing transport investment already approved by BCP Council.
The long-term plan goes hand-in with a number of existing investments that have been approved by BCP Council earlier in the year.
Nearly £90million is set to be invested in improving roads, upgrading crossings, connecting communities and over the next three years; whilst 1.3million bus journeys have been protected through the Council’s Local Authority Bus Grant allocation; and a Lane Rental Scheme is being developed to significantly cut down on roadwork disruption across BCP’s busiest roads.
Councillors will discuss the Local Transport Plan at the Environment and Place Overview and Scrutiny Committee on 15 July 2026.
