A Ferndown resident celebrated her 104th birthday with a special magic show at her care home.
Margery Haynes marked the occasion at Amberwood House, where she has lived for the past five years, with a performance from visiting entertainer Andy the Magician, who entertained residents with card tricks, mind reading and rope magic throughout the afternoon.
The event was organised with Margery’s approval by Companionship Team Leader Madeleine Baker, who said the birthday girl enjoys having fun and “loved the idea of a magic show” for herself and fellow residents. Resident Sheila Shire even suggested an extra round of applause for the performer “because he was so good”.
Margery said afterwards: “It was a lovely afternoon. Thank you.”
Born in the West Midlands, Margery later moved to Bournemouth with her husband Harry after the couple enjoyed many holidays by the sea. During the Second World War, she worked in a factory before later supporting her husband’s career while caring for her mother.
Home Manager Kerry Mason said Margery has now celebrated her 100th through to 104th birthdays at Amberwood House and remains known for her “warmth, humour and spirit”.
