Poole Pride draws record crowd in town

Poole Pride attracted record numbers for its third annual celebration at Lighthouse.

More than 1,500 participants and visitors attended the building-based event, taking part in live music, cabaret, poetry, workshops, storytelling, art and craft sessions, a silent disco and stalls hosted by organisations supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

The programme included performances from Lighthouse regulars Lucid Cabaret, 4-time UK beatbox champion Grace Savage, folk singer Maddie Morris and Poole-based alt folk band Sassenach.

Diverse City also hosted a performance workshop, while comedian Suzi Ruffell brought the evening programme to a close with her latest stand-up show, The Juggle.

Jessica Tressell, who performs as drag king Oliver Clothezoff, said there was a “genuine sense of community” throughout the day.

She said those involved had created a space where local people could “simply be themselves”.

Lucy Muir from Sassenach described it as a “meaningful and memorable day”, reflecting on the opportunity to perform at a local Pride event in Poole.

The event brought together entertainment, activities, information and support for people across the area.
