Goals set higher at Seafield Gardens

Improvements to the football pitch and play equipment at Seafield Gardens in Southbourne are moving forward after sustained fundraising by a local volunteer group.

Friends of Seafield Gardens has been working with BCP Council to upgrade the play park, support Parks Foundation Green Fingers Days and deliver practical changes that reflect how families and residents use the space.

As a result of the group’s fundraising, the football pitch is set to double in size with the addition of a second goal, while one of the swings will be adapted to improve accessibility for children with additional needs.

Plans are also progressing to replace a damaged and outdated see-saw with a new accessible model, helping to ensure the play area can be enjoyed by a wider range of users.

Alongside the play improvements, volunteers have supported Green Fingers Days, held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, which focus on caring for and improving the gardens.

For almost two years, the group has worked to enhance both the gardens and the play park, including securing an extension to the water tower CCTV system, which has helped address anti-social behaviour on the bowling greens.

The impact of that work has been recognised by Southbourne Bowling Club, where the improvements were noted at its recent annual general meeting.

The group’s next fundraising event is planned for Saturday February 7, as volunteers continue efforts to support further improvements at Seafield Gardens.
