Bourne Valley play area in Poole will soon undergo significant improvements as part of BCP Council’s Plan for Play strategy, with work starting next week.
The refurbishment aims to create an inclusive and adventurous space for children of all ages, shaped by ideas from local families and young people.
The new design is inspired by the large red damselflies found in the park and features three distinct zones to encourage different types of play.
Older children will be able to enjoy a pendulum swing, rope end swing and a multi-level climbing structure, while younger visitors will have access to a toddler and inclusive zone with slides, swings, sensory play equipment and wheelchair-friendly features.
Councillor Andy Hadley said the upgrades reflect the park’s natural beauty and represent a significant investment in local play facilities.
The work is expected to take around six weeks and is funded by BCP Council’s Plan for Play strategy, with additional support from Bourne Big Local lottery funding.
This project follows recent upgrades at Treasure Island and Queen’s Park, with further refurbishments planned for other sites across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole in the coming months.
