Concerns raised over alcohol licence

Objections have been raised over plans for a convenience store in Bournemouth to sell alcohol late into the night.

Seafront Mini Market on Westover Road has applied for a licence to sell alcohol for off-site consumption between 8am and 3am daily.

The application will be discussed at a licensing committee meeting on April 20.

Concerns from residents, police and local organisations focus on the potential impact on public safety.

Dorset Police has warned the proposal could worsen existing issues in the area, including anti-social behaviour and street drinking.

The nearby YMCA, which supports vulnerable individuals, has also raised concerns about the effect increased alcohol availability could have on those dealing with addiction.

A previous application for the same premises was refused in 2022 due to similar concerns about crime and disorder.

Local leaders have also warned that extending alcohol sales into the early hours could increase risks to children and lead to more aggressive behaviour in the area.

Councillors will now consider the objections before making a final decision on the licence.
