A heath fire near Agglestone in Studland has been extinguished after a multi-service response on Monday evening.
Around 45 firefighters from Swanage, Poole, Wareham, Redhill Park, Wimborne, Ferndown and Ringwood attended the incident, using hose reels and beaters to bring the flames under control across an area measuring about 100m by 50m.
Ferry Road was close from around 8pm till 10pm.
Residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed while members of the public were told to avoid the area, as crews worked alongside Dorset Police, Wessex Rescue, HM Coastguard, SWAST and the Studland Chain Ferry.
By 9pm, the fire had been put out and firefighters were dampening down the heath, with the service saying it was “grateful for support” from the partner organisations involved in the response.
At 10.10pm, the incident was being scaled back to one fire engine and one Land Rover, with crews remaining at the scene to continue checks and ensure the affected ground was safe.
