Avon Heath Country Park has received a Green Flag Award for its management and maintenance.
The site is among five Dorset Council locations recognised this year, alongside Durlston Country Park, Thorncombe Wood and the council’s nature reserves at Stour Meadows and The Milldown.
The awards, which are marking their 30th year, recognise parks and green spaces that are safely managed, welcoming and maintained to a high standard for residents and visitors.
Durlston Country Park has also received Green Heritage Site Accreditation, recognising the management and promotion of its historic features.
The 5 Dorset locations are among a record 2,391 sites across the UK to achieve Green Flag status this year.
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said parks were “essential public spaces” supporting wellbeing, communities and the economy.
Councillor Jon Andrews, Dorset Council’s Cabinet Member for Place Services, said the sites give people opportunities to “spend time outdoors, explore nature and enjoy the county’s landscapes”.
He said the awards reflected the commitment of country park teams, volunteers and partners working to keep the locations accessible and enjoyable.
