Councillor leaves Conservatives to stand alone
A Bournemouth East councillor is preparing to stand in upcoming town council elections.
Councillor Toby Slade has confirmed he will stand as an Independent candidate and has resigned from the Conservative Party in order to do so, saying the move reflects his intention to represent the wishes of residents in his BCP ward.
He said no Conservative candidates are currently being put forward in Bournemouth East, meaning residents would not have a clear centre right option, and he wants to provide that choice through an Independent candidacy.
Councillor Slade said “this decision has not been taken lightly” and added that “people come before party”, explaining his commitment to residents remains unchanged and focused on service, representation and local priorities.
He will continue to serve as an Independent on BCP Council and said he plans to work constructively with others where it benefits residents, aligning with his principles, common sense and conviction for the good of the community.
