Circus fete supports nearby therapy farm

A circus-themed fete in Longham has raised more than £500 for a nearby therapy farm.

Residents, relatives and friends gathered in the garden at Fernhill, where gift stalls, a raffle and tombola brought in money for High Mead Farm, the care home residents’ chosen charity for the year.

Team members wore waistcoats, bow ties, bright T-shirts and clown makeup, handing guests circus tickets for traditional games including Hook the Duck and Tin Can Alley, while a barbecue was also held during the afternoon.

Members of the Grumpy Grandads retro scooter group visited the event, with resident Monica joking, “This is fabulous, I’m going to drive off,” after taking a seat on one of the scooters.

Home Manager Lorraine Bell said it was “fantastic to see such a great turnout” and thanked everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, supported the stalls or helped to organise the afternoon.

High Mead Farm, less than a mile from Fernhill, offers supported work and therapeutic activities for people living with mental health issues, physical disabilities, addiction or dementia through arts, crafts, animals and nature.
