Food market alcohol licence to be decided

Plans for a new food market in Bournemouth town centre to sell alcohol will be considered by councillors.

An application has been submitted for a premises licence at 82 Old Christchurch Road on behalf of Bournemouth Food Market Ltd.

The proposal would allow alcohol to be sold for consumption on and off the premises between midday and 10pm every day.

Plans suggest the venue itself would be open from 8am until 10.30pm throughout the week.

The site previously operated as a Pizza Hut restaurant and still holds an existing licence for alcohol sales, although the restaurant closed in 2012.

One objection has been submitted to the council, raising concerns that the licence could increase public nuisance, crime and disorder and negatively affect people living and working nearby.

However, several conditions have been agreed with Trading Standards and Dorset Police.

These include a Challenge 25 policy, CCTV coverage, no single cans of beer or cider being sold and limits on alcohol strength.

BCP Council’s licensing committee will consider the application at a meeting on March 31 before making a final decision.
