Celebrating harvest with community food events

More than fifteen harvest events are taking place across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, giving residents the chance to share food, connect with others and learn about sustainable living.

The Access to Food Partnership, which includes BCP Council and over seventy community projects, is running the activities that range from social canteens and foraging walks to crumble-making and shared meals.

The partnership supports thousands of people locally through foodbanks, pantries, community fridges and growing projects, all aimed at making sure everyone can access healthy food for themselves and their families.

Councillor Sandra Moore, BCP Council Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnerships, said rising food costs made these events even more valuable. She said the celebrations would “help encourage people to share surplus food” while also giving them the chance to learn about the local organisations that provide affordable or emergency food when needed.

By joining a harvest event, residents are encouraged not only to enjoy a meal but also to take time to connect with others, discover nature and boost wellbeing.
