Help shape future travel across BCP

Residents in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are being asked to give their views on how local travel should develop over the next 15 years.

BCP Council, working with Dorset Council, is updating the joint Local Transport Plan to cover the period from 2026 through to 2041. The plan aims to create an accessible and sustainable network that works for residents, workers and visitors, while also supporting the economy.

The consultation will focus on six key objectives, including health and wellbeing, access and safety, public transport improvements, and protecting the environment.

The population of BCP is expected to be over half a million people by the end of the plan, up from the current figure of 404,050, and issues such as traffic congestion and lack of public transport between towns and villages needs to be addressed.

Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for the Local Transport Plan at BCP Council, said the plan must consider “resilience, health, accessibility, sustainability and safety” to support communities into the future. He added that safe travel for children and young people, reliable public transport for older residents, and measures to address climate change are all essential.

Earlier engagement last year and discussions at a transport conference this year have helped shape the draft plan. The current consultation is designed to gather further feedback from residents, businesses and others across the area.

The consultation is open until 11.59pm on 12 October and can be completed online at the BCP Council website, with paper copies available at local libraries.

Residents can also meet the team in person at Bournemouth’s Travel Interchange on 18 September, Scaplen’s Court in Poole on 20 September, and Christchurch Library on 29 September.
