Dorset recovery group launched to improve local addiction services

A new independent group made up of people in recovery from drug or alcohol use has launched in Dorset to help improve local support services.

The Lived Experience Recovery Organisation, known as CLARITY, brings together individuals with lived or living experience of recovery. The group will work closely with Dorset Council and other partners to reduce stigma, improve access to help, and ensure services reflect the needs of those who use them.

CLARITY was set up by Intuitive Thinking Skills after being commissioned by Dorset Council’s Public Health Team. The aim is to fill the gap left by the now-disbanded Dorset Service User Forum, using real-life experiences to help shape support services and influence commissioning.

The group’s first members have already completed a recognised ambassador qualification, giving them the tools to contribute directly to treatment service improvements across the county.

Councillor Gill Taylor, Cabinet Member for Housing and Health, said the project supports Dorset Council’s aim to create healthier communities through collaboration and inclusion.

CLARITY’s ongoing work will include peer support, seeking input from service users, and building stronger links between communities and local services. The group also plans to support people who may struggle to access treatment and promote more compassionate approaches to recovery.
