BU students win RTS award for Covid film

Bournemouth University students have won a national journalism award for a documentary about Covid grief.

Their film, Remembering You, received the Undergraduate Journalism Category prize at the 2026 Royal Television Society Student Awards, which recognise student television work from across the UK and Ireland.

The documentary explores the grief and continuing impact on families who lost loved ones during the Covid-19 pandemic, using contributors’ experiences to tell the story.

RTS judges described it as a “brave and powerful piece” with “raw, confident presenting” and a clear narrative supported by a strong range of voices.

They also praised the camera work, writing and production, saying the documentary “captivated the jurors from start to finish” while maintaining the right tone throughout.

The project was directed, produced and co-edited by media production student Libby Marchant, alongside fellow BU students Katie Green, Harry Strubel, Jacob Rosenberg, Cody Osei, Harry Dyke, Ben Jones and Blake Hemmings.

Libby said winning the award was “one of the best moments in my career yet” and said she was proud the documentary’s message had been recognised.

She added that the award was dedicated to her grandads and thanked the crew and contributors for their support, work and “braveness”.

Since completing her studies, Libby has worked in television as a production secretary and runner on programmes including Saturday Night Live UK, Squid Game: The Challenge, 99 To Beat US and Would You Rather: Decide To Survive.

Production manager Jacob Rosenberg said the award reflected the effort put in by the full team, adding that they “could not have deserved it more”.

Rebecca Bond, programme leader for BA Media Production, said it was the first time the course had won an RTS award in journalism.
