Plans for a former Bournemouth care home to become sheltered flats are recommended despite 71 objections.
The former council-run Broadwaters care home has stood vacant for several years and would be transformed into 20 retirement living flats designed for people aged 65 and above.
Across the building’s existing 3 floors, plans include 15 one-bedroom homes, 4 two-bedroom homes and a three-bedroom flat for a manager, along with a communal living room and storage for bins, bikes and mobility scooters.
The council received 71 objections, with concerns focusing on retaining what some residents described as an “unsightly” building, the number of homes proposed and possible pressure on local infrastructure and services, including parking and traffic.
Many responses came from nearby roads, including Ariel Close, Braemar Avenue, Braemar Close, Broadlands Avenue, Cherry Lodge, Duncliff Road, Verwood Crescent and Wick Lane.
Following revisions and a further consultation in March 2026, another 4 letters were submitted, all raising concerns about the amount of car parking included in the plans.
The application is now recommended for approval and is expected to go before members of the planning committee for a decision at its meeting in Bournemouth on August 20.
