Plans have been submitted to build 115 affordable homes at Constitution Hill in Poole.
The proposed development includes a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom properties, as well as specialist accommodation, with BCP Council saying the plans have been designed around local housing needs and demand for smaller homes.
More than 3,500 households are currently on the housing register, and the council says redeveloping the long vacant site would provide more secure housing while creating new green spaces and improving connections through the area.
Proposals include landscaped social gardens, nature play areas, improved walking routes, rain gardens and sustainable drainage features, while existing woodland would be retained and enhanced to support biodiversity and provide a greener setting for residents.
Councillor Kieron Wilson, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Regulatory Services, said the application was an “important step forward” and that the development would directly respond to demand, particularly for 1 and 2 bedroom homes.
He said the scheme would also “breathe new life into a long-vacant site” and create a safer and more sustainable place to live.
