Dorset Police’s Digital Capabilities Unit has released a new guide to help parents and guardians in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole manage parental controls for children using social media.
The guide is designed to support families in having open conversations with children about their social media use, offering practical advice on how to make online experiences safer.
It covers a variety of social media platforms and gaming sites that young people may use, and provides information on where to find further support if needed.
Detective Inspector Andy Brix said the guide was created to give parents practical advice, such as how to activate parental controls on different platforms.
He explained that social media is increasingly shaping how young people learn and socialise, and some adults may want to better understand the digital world to help reduce risks while allowing children to benefit from online opportunities.
